In a last-minute move, President Joe Biden signed a bill late Thursday night to avert a government shutdown, ensuring continued funding through early 2024. The measure, characterized as an unconventional two-step plan, temporarily extends funding for some agencies until January, while others are funded through early February.

The decision comes after intense negotiations on Capitol Hill as lawmakers worked to pass a funding bill before the looming deadline. Failure to do so would have resulted in a government shutdown, disrupting essential services and impacting federal workers.
