U.N. Security Council approves a resolution to boost humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip

The UN Security Council has approved a resolution to increase humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The vote was 13-0 in favor, with the U.S. and Russia abstaining. The resolution does not call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and is unlikely to impact military operations in Gaza.

The U.S. had previously vetoed two resolutions for a ceasefire, asserting it would benefit Hamas. Hamas reportedly rejected a week-long truce deal, which would have entailed the release of 40 hostages held by the militant group.
