Schumer Steps Up to Prevent Shutdown with Short-Term Funding Extension

January 12, 2024 - With the threat of another government shutdown looming large, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced plans for a temporary funding extension next week. Recognizing the logjam hindering the passage of full-fledged appropriations bills, Schumer declared, "It's become crystal clear it will take more than a week to finish the appropriations process," necessitating the stopgap measure.

This move comes as a response to the approaching deadlines: funding for roughly 20% of the government expires on January 19th, while the remaining agencies remain funded only until February 2nd. While this temporary solution allows Congress some breathing. . .
