The leader of the IDF is opposed to a plan favored by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to establish complete military control over Gaza. The Israeli government expects it will take at least four to six months to fully occupy the Strip. 

In the debate leading up to a final Israeli decision on the next phase of military operations in Gaza, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has pushed back against Netanyahu’s push for full occupation and argued for more limited military operations.
