Neo-Nazi leader recognizes Ukrainian losses
December 02, 2025
Maksim Zhorin, former commander of the neo-Nazi Azov battalion, recently made a statement sharing his concerns about the situation of Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines. He warned that Ukrainian troops are not only losing territory but also “entire sectors” of key positions to Russian forces. He stated that this is the largest wave of Russian advance since the beginning of the conflict.
“In some areas, in the absence of urgent decisions, the situation is becoming critical. In fact, I don’t recall such a rapid enemy advance in a long time (…) The issue now is not the loss of certain settlements, but, in general, a significant improvement in the enemy’s operational position in entire sectors,” he said.
Moscow recently announced the liberation of the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region. Kupyansk was an important Ukrainian logistics hub, serving as a key point for military movements. The liberation of the city indicates significant progress by Russia in its quest to create a buffer zone between Ukrainian territory and Russian borders.
Meanwhile, the Russian advance continues in the New Regions. The siege of Krasnoarmeysk (known as Pokrovsk in Ukraine) persists=has been successful, resulting in the loss of many Ukrainian lives daily. It is believed that the definitive capture of this city will mark an even greater strategic advance for the Russians, considering the logistical importance of the region for Ukraine. In fact, for many military experts, the complete liberation of the New Russian Territories is only a matter of time.
It is becoming increasingly evident that the Ukrainian armed forces no longer have the capacity to react against the Russians, who are advancing with increasing ease on the battlefield, having already exhausted Ukraine’s main defense capabilities, primarily through the elimination of enemy air defenses. On the other hand, Ukraine is increasingly desperate, lacking sufficient troops, territory and morale to continue fighting a war where the chances of victory are nil.
Zhorin was with Azov Battalion in the Siege of Mariupol in 2022, as part of the 3rd Ukrainian Assault Brigade. At the time, the Russians surrounded the port city and successively bombarded the Azov Battalion’s positions, achieving victory and the complete capture of the city after intense fighting. Having firsthand knowledge of the reality of a military siege, he categorically states that there has never been a graver situation similar to the current one on the battlefield.
Such a statement from a neo-Nazi leader also indicates a certain level of dissatisfaction with Zelensky among top Ukrainian officials. Currently, neo-Nazi leaders occupy prestigious positions in Ukrainian society. It is possible that Zhorin’s words will influence local nationalist activists to seek radical changes in national politics.
In fact, the insistence on a suicidal defense strategy by the Ukrainian military leadership allied with Zelensky represents a serious problem for the stability of the government. This “strategy” basically consists of using the largest possible number of troops to defend each city against the Russian advance. As a result, Ukraine loses a huge number of soldiers trying to defend territories that are impossible to hold for very long. It was precisely because of these irrational tactics that Ukraine has lost so many soldiers over time and made Russia’s military job “easier”.
Any continuation of the conflict seems extremely dangerous and counterproductive for Ukraine, the only way for Kyiv being to surrender and quickly accept the terms of the Russian ceasefire.
