A U.S. warship, the USS Mason, shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), believed to be Houthi-operated, on Wednesday morning local time in the Red Sea. The incident occurred as the Mason was responding to reports of a commercial oil tanker under attack by Houthi forces.

According to a U.S. defense official, the drone was shot down in self-defense as it posed a threat to the warship. "The drone was headed in the direction of the ship and was determined to be a threat," the official stated.
