A committee in St. Louis has convened to discuss the possibility of reparations for the victims and descendants of the 1917 massacre of Black residents in the city. The meeting, held on July 3, marks a significant step towards acknowledging the historical injustice and addressing the long-lasting impact on the affected community.

ESPN Lays Off On-Air Personalities

ESPN is laying off some well-known on-air reporters and personalities. Almost two dozen on-air staff members were reportedly let go by the sports cable network Friday. Some of the names include Jeff Van Gundy, Max Kellerman, Keyshawn Johnson, Steve Young, Suzy Kolber and Ashley Brewer. The Hollywood Reporter says the cuts were not part of ESPN parent company Disney’s plan to layoff seven-thousand workers. The outlet reports ESPN decided to cut on-air talent in order to save off-screen jobs as it tried to meet its financial targets.

Evidence Piles Against Rep George Santos on Charges of Fraud and Misappropriation

Lawyers for New York Congressman George Santos will be going through a mountain of evidence against their client. Santos made his first federal court appearance today on Long Island since pleading not guilty to charges of wire fraud, money laundering and making false statements. The judge is giving the congressman’s defense team the summer to review what prosecutors say is more than 80-thousand pages of evidence against Santos. Prosecutors allege Santos misused campaign funds and fraudulently received COVID-19 unemployment benefits. The Republican is due back in court September 7th.

Supreme Court Blocks President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan

The Supreme Court is blocking President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan. The high court today ruled the president exceeded his authority with his plan to forgive more than 400-billion in federal student loan debt, a policy that could have eliminated some debt for more than 40-million Americans. In the 6-3 decision, the justices said the program needed approval by Congress. The program would have eliminated up to 20-thousand dollars of debt for eligible borrowers.
