Southern California Researchers Predict Catastrophic Sea Level Rise if Thwaites Glacier Breaks Off

Scientists at the University of California, Irvine, are sounding the alarm about the potential catastrophic consequences if the massive Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica, often referred to as the "Doomsday Glacier," breaks off. Their research has uncovered that warming ocean waters are making their way underneath a group of large glaciers, including Thwaites, accelerating the melting process.

The researchers have discovered that these warming ocean waters are penetrating miles beneath the frozen ice of the glaciers. This underwater melting process is destabilizing the ice structures and making it increasingly likely that. . .
