WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice announced Friday that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on sweeping charges related to human trafficking, including the smuggling of minors, firearms, and narcotics across the U.S. border. The indictment marks one of the most significant human trafficking cases brought forward by the federal government in recent years.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, speaking from DOJ headquarters, described Garcia as the alleged ringleader of a sprawling smuggling operation that extended from Central America into the heart of the United States. Federal prosecutors claim the network trafficked thousands. . .
