Historic US-Russia Prisoner Swap: Gershkovich and Whelan Released

In a historic and unprecedented move, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan are now back in U.S. custody following a significant prisoner swap with Russia. The exchange marks the largest such agreement between the two nations since the Cold War. Gershkovich, who was sentenced to 16 years in a Russian prison on espionage charges vehemently denied by both him and the U.S., and Whelan, detained since 2018 and serving a two-decade sentence for alleged spying, have both been freed.
