In December 2022, the current Israeli government took power. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to align with hardline, anti-Palestinian factions to form his ruling coalition. Included in the Israeli government are Betzalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Upon taking office, Smotrich vowed to advance towards Israeli annexation of the West Bank while Ben-Gvir pledged to make life as miserable for the Palestinians under his control.
