Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is expected to sign off on a proposal to keep the National Guard deployed to the nation’s capital until President Donald Trump leaves office. 

Two sources speaking with ABC News said the proposal is to keep the National Guard in Washington, DC through January 20, 2029. Hegseth needs to sign off on the plan, but the Secretary of War is expected to give his approval.
