Russia has indicated its willingness to discuss a new prisoner swap with the West once Donald Trump takes office, following a historic exchange in Turkey earlier this year.

Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's deputy foreign minister, stated that Moscow would "definitely be prepared to consider" such a deal after Trump’s inauguration next month. He suggested that an exchange could serve as a step toward improving relations with Washington.

Currently, ties between the two nuclear powers remain at their lowest point since the Cold War, strained by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. However, Ryabkov emphasized that this move could mark “a healthy step forward, especially at the beginning of the next administration,” in an interview with NBC News.
