In an unexpected and controversial Oval Office moment, President Donald Trump again floats the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States. Standing beside newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump tells reporters the idea “just makes sense,” arguing it would lead to lower taxes, “a free military,” and the elimination of the U.S.-Canada border. Prime Minister Carney, maintaining composure during the joint appearance, firmly rejects the proposal, declaring, “Canada is not for sale.”
