The U.S. Treasury Department announces a new wave of sanctions targeting the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent criminal organizations. The sanctions focus on CJNG's extensive involvement in fentanyl trafficking, fuel theft, and crude oil smuggling operations that span across the U.S.-Mexico border.

On May 1, 2025, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designates three Mexican nationals—César Morfín Morfín and his brothers Álvaro Noé and Remigio Morfín Morfín—as key operatives in CJNG's illicit activities.
