Naval officer returns home: Alkonis transferred from Japan prison to US custody

After 507 days behind bars in Japan, US Navy Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis has finally landed on American soil. Alkonis, convicted of negligent driving that killed two Japanese citizens in 2021, arrived in Los Angeles late Thursday under the terms of an international prisoner transfer agreement.

In May 2021, Alkonis was driving near Mount Fuji when his car veered off the road and collided with pedestrians and parked vehicles. The accident tragically claimed the lives of an 85-year-old woman and her 54-year-old son. . .
