The White House has confirmed the detention of U.S. soldier Private Travis T. King in North Korea. According to U.S. and South Korean officials, King, who was facing disciplinary actions, unexpectedly crossed into North Korea from the Joint Security Area in Panmunjom during an orientation tour. This incident marks a highly unusual case of a U.S. military member entering North Korea without authorization.
