Canada Rail Shutdown: Labour Minister Orders Binding Arbitration to Resume Railway Operations

After a temporary shutdown caused by labor disputes between the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference and major rail operators Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Canadian National Railway (CN), Canada’s Minister of Labour Steven MacKinnon has intervened to order the resumption of railway operations. The shutdown, which began after talks broke down at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, had brought shipments across the country to a halt, raising concerns about its impact on the Canadian and U.S. economies.
