After more than ten weeks of a total blockade, Israel announces it will permit a limited amount of food into the Gaza Strip. The decision follows increasing international pressure and dire warnings from humanitarian organizations about the risk of famine among Gaza's 2.1 million residents. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office states that the move aims to prevent a starvation crisis that could jeopardize ongoing military operations against Hamas.
