On the evening of May 17, 2025, the Mexican Navy’s tall ship Cuauhtémoc crashes into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, leaving two crew members dead and at least 19 others injured. The ship, a renowned 300-foot training vessel with masts reaching up to 147 feet, reportedly loses power while departing from South Street Seaport during a ceremonial goodwill tour. As it drifts backward, the ship strikes the iconic bridge, snapping all three of its towering masts on impact.
