The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) confirms that the state’s measles outbreak has now exceeded 700 cases, with 702 infections reported as of May 6, 2025. This marks the most significant surge in measles cases in Texas since the disease was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000.

The latest update includes 19 new cases reported since May 2. Health officials say the outbreak originated in a rural area of West Texas, specifically Gaines County, which alone accounts for 403 confirmed cases—more than 57% of the state’s total. Vaccination rates in that region remain. . .
